What a prominent travel magazine (Conde Nast Traveler) is "reporting" about our regional competition.

QUESTION: If somehow-someway the tectonic plates were to violently shift & a coastal chunk of Treasure Beach were to break away from the rest of the Island of JamRock, is it conceivable that the new land mass of TraySuh Isle might eventually be judged as one of the Caribbean's Friendlies Places?

...wasn't too happy what one of the respondents ("hater") to the article had to say (was this an attitude-burdened, day-tripping cruise-ship passenger haughtily sniffing the air?):

Of one of our most looked forward to vacations, Jamaica was a disappointment. Unlike other Caribbean locales, Jamaica was the armpit of bunch. I wasn't expecting Tijuana as an island, but that is what we found.

Branching out to other vacation islands around the world, perhaps the best we found was Fiji.

Few things are as horrifying as witnessing the higglers pouncing on cruise ship visitors. It could ruin anyone's visit. The sad thing is that just as AI visitors never know the real Jamaica, neither do those poor unfortunate cruise ship patrons out on shore leave. Picture the worst parts of a visit to Negril and then multiply times ten.

The level of craft could return to old quality. Then, collectors would line up for certain items.

Turtle shell, maybe sustainably harvested in the late 17th C, maybe not. Still check the quality that any sea salt would be proud to bring home to his sweetheart. They still turn up, so does Jamaican silver and early furniture. All high quality.

Artists and craft people need lovely spaces to work in and show their work. There also is a need for training in the use of local materials and the methods of making ones own tools.

I have never met anyone that had a good opinion about Jamaica after stopping on a cruise ship for one day.
As for the visitors that stay at all-inclusive resorts, if they get off the resort via a "private taxi" they generally have a good time.
However, if they do the group bus tour, they generally do not have a good time.
ONE LOVE !!

Not surprised. The caan badda and soon-come attitude can sometimes be overpowering.

I just do NOT UNDERSTAND how some people claim their love for jamaica, one moment and the next second, they are crucifying that name. Some people who live there and also some visitors. Jamaica cannot make you happy. That is your choice. People who have their frustration built up,do not release it on other people, or other countries names. Use self control. Take a look at YOUR SELF first, before you start digging dirt from some body else back yard.
